Lot Essay

The anonymous stipple-engraver 'Alius' worked in the Hague between 1760-1780. He worked as 'the unknown other' in the style of David Wolff and produced more than 130 recorded glasses.
The rock represents 'Perseverance' and the key and the dog 'Fidelity'.
