Maria Spilsbury was the daughter of the London engraver, John Spilsbury. She exhibited works at the Royal Academy (1792-1808) and British Institute (1806-1813), and many of her pictures, particularly genre scenes, were engraved. She married John Taylor in 1809, and moved to Ireland in 1813, where she continued to exhibit in Dublin until 1819.
