Lot Essay

Ann Garrould comments on the present work, 'The central half-figure at the top of the page is clearly an internal/external form, whilst the half-figure at lower right with its triangular breasts and rigid stick-like arms will be seen again in drawings done very early in 1933. The tense, angry expression of the head just to the left of this half-figure recalls medieval carvings such as Moore may have seen as a child at Methley church in Yorkshire' (loc. cit).
