Jacques Chalom des Cordes will include this work in the forthcoming Van Dongen catalogue raisonné being prepared under the sponsorship of the Wildenstein Institute.

Van Dongen left Paris to travel extensively in Spain, Morocco and Egypt between 1910 and 1913. The present work was executed in 1913 near the city of Aswan in southern Egypt.
