Lot Essay

Gerrit Rietveld regularly designed interiors in the The Hague shop of Metz & Co. Two bookcases of this design were made for these occasions, but remained unsold. One of them was destroyed during the Second World War. The other is the present lot which was owned by a former employee of Metz & Co, until the father of the present owner inherited the piece.
