A RARE LARGE IMPERIAL GILT-COPPER REPOUSSÉ ENAMEL DOUBLE-GOURD VASE AND COVER
IMPRESSED QIANLONG SIX-CHARACTER SEAL MARK AND OF THE PERIOD (1736-95)
Formed as a double gourd and decorated all over with a repoussé design of smaller double-gourds of light grey soapstone borne on scrolling tendrils, the leaves enamelled in shades of turquoise, deep blue and green, the star-shaped flowers enamelled in coral with blue and green details, all set against a ring-punched ground, supported on a ring foot decorated with a key-fret design in dark blue enamel, surmounted by a fitted cover with gnarled stem finial

Lot Essay

An almost identical example, from the Shenyang Palace Museum, China, was included in the exhibition catalogue, Imperial Life in the Qing Dynasty, The Empress Palace, pp. 18-19. A smaller pair (14 in.) with Qianlong mark and of the period was sold in our Hong Kong Rooms, 30 April-2 May 1995, lot 595.
