Lot Essay

The topsail schooner Mary, 108 tons, was built at Topsham, Devon, in 1817 and owned by E. Pollard of Brixham. Trading to many destinations, this portrait would seem to have been painted to coincide with Captain West's first voyage after taking over her command in 1842.
