Lot Essay

The wooden schooner Medora was designed and built by Camper & Nicholson at Gosport in 1875. Registered at 169 tons gross (90 net) and measuring 97 feet in length with a 20 foot beam, she was sold to a Frenchman in the late 1880s who renamed her Leo. By 1895 however, she had been sold again and her original name of Medora restored. Surviving the Great War, she was renamed Malaya in the early 1920s but disappears from record around 1930.
