The three-masted topsail schooner John Wignall was built for the Wignall fleet of Fleetwood, Lancashire, by Allsups of Preston in 1870, and used in the company's coastal trade. Registered at 157 tons gross (141 net), she measured 98 feet in length with a 23 foot beam and worked successfully until wrecked in Red Wharf Bay, Anglesey, on 22nd December 1894, whilst on passage from Cornwall to Fleetwood carrying China clay. At the time of her loss she was owned by Nicholson of Fleetwood.
