ROOSEVELT, Franklin D. Guilty! The Confession of Franklin D. Roosevelt. Written by a Friend. With an Introduction by Donald Richberg. Garden City, N. Y. Doubleday, Doran & Company, Inc., 1936.

8o (188 x 122 mm). Half-title. Facsimile of letter from FDR to Richberg opposite title page. Tan cloth boards, blue lettering on spine, top edge stained blue. Provenance: Marguerite LeHand (presentation inscription from Donald Richberg and Franklin D. Roosevelt on front flyleaf).

FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY. Missy LeHand's copy of Richberg's election year satire, poking fun at the Republican charge that FDR longed to become a dictator. He has the President blithely pleading "Guilty!" to the charge of violating all the hackneyed, laissez-faire notions dear to the business community--what Richberg calls "the DuPont Constitution." A rare piece of Rooseveltiana linking FDR, his principal personal secretary, and Richberg, an original "Brains Truster" and architect of early New Deal policies like the National Recovery Administration. Halter T410.
