A LATE 19TH-CENTURY CADET'S LOG
kept by F.A. Clutterbuck between May 1896 and November 1897 for H.M. Ships Orlando; Flora; Wanderer and Victory, written in a neat hand and containing numerous maps applied to pages, bound between sailcloth-covered hardboards, with cap tallies for relevant vessels applied to the front -- 13 x 8¼in. (33 x 21cm.)

Lot Essay

Francis Alexander Clutterbuck, D.S.O., R.N., enjoyed an interesting naval career - he took part in the relief of Ladysmith, was the last Naval Officer to leave South Africa at the end of the Boer War, and was awarded a D.S.O. for Commanding destroyers during the First World War in the North Sea and at the Battle of Jutland.
