Lot Essay

Built by Germaniawerft at Kiel, northern Germany, in 1881, Monte Promina was launched with the name of Prinz Heinrich. Registered at 281 tons gross (165 net), she measured 121 feet in length with a 22 foot beam and was powered by a triple-expansion 3-cylinder engine by Daevel, also of Kiel. Renamed Monte Promina (in 1897?), she then passed into the ownership of August Bohme who registered her and traded her out of Trieste on the Adriatic.
