Barcaldine Castle, the 'Black Castle', near Benderloch close to Oban, is one of the few mediaeval castles in Scotland which appears practically unchanged. It was built in the late 16th Century as a military outpost by Sir Duncan Campbell of Glenorchy (Black Duncan), and remains in Campbell hands.
