Lot Essay

In 1918, Libbie Moody married Clark Wallace Thompson (1896-1981), a politician and military leader who started his political career in Texas. Upon his transfer to Washington, D.C., he and his wife formed an important part of the social scene; their home was known as the 'Texas Embassy' or 'Texas Legation' and played a central role in the capital's social life during the 1950s and 1960s. Naturally, her jewellery matched the importance of the events and this splendid ruby and diamond necklace, which detaches into two separate necklaces, would have done justice to any glamorous party.
