Marcel Jean est représenté par La Forteresse dans lequel deux créatures sont enracinées sans possibilité de s'échapper (lot 145); une petite gouache d'Oscar Dominguez met en scène une locomotive féroce dans une usine colorée rappelant Métropolis (lot 152); et dans Histoire de fées, Meret Oppenheim illustre son intérêt pour les domaines du rêve et du subconscient (lot 151). This selection of works on paper from a Private American Collection presents many different facets of the Surrealist movement (lots 144-153). Kurt Seligmann is aptly represented with his anthropomorphic figures (lot 153); Léonor Fini explores female sexual desire, at that time considered taboo, in her erotic drawings (lots 147-149); and in Sheherazade, Magritte draws on major themes from his work, such as magic and the play of reality versus imaginary (lot 150). Marcel Jean is represented by La Forteresse, in which two figures are literally rooted without any chance of escape (lot 145); a small gouache by Oscar Dominguez shows a fierce locomotive in a colourful factory reminding us of Metropolis (lot 152); and in Histoire de fées, Meret Oppenheim illustrates her fascination with the dream and unconscious world (lot 151).
