A LATE 19TH CENTURY HARDSTONE CAMEO BROOCH/PENDANT, BY CIVILOTTI
The oval hardstone carved to depict the profile of Apollo after the "Apollo Belvedere", to a gold frame with bead and ropework decoration and beaded scroll detail, in fitted case stamped C.Civilotti P. Di Spagna No 93. 94. 95. Roma, the cameo reverse with indistinct scratched signature, circa 1870

Further details
The "Apollo Belevedere", a Roman copy of a Greek 4th century BC bronze, was displayed from the early 16th century in the statue court of the Belvedere in the Vatican and was copied as a gem in the 18th and 19th centuries. The statue was ceded to Napoleon in 1798 and remained in Paris till 1815 when it was returned to Rome
