There is Brunello di Montalcino, and then there is Soldera "Case Basse" Brunello di Montalcino. One sip of the pure expression of Sangiovese Grosso traditionally aged for over 5 years in ancient Slovenian barrels and you'll wonder why anyone would make wine differently. Grapes come exclusively from the Case Basse estate, where the small vineyards of southwest orientation allow manual cultivation and a short harvest. The wine is neither fined nor filtered and takes decades of cellaring before reaching its unparallel potential. Infinitesimal amounts are made and even less released on the market, making Montalcino's best also the rarest.
