Lot Essay
This paper provides a rare insight into the early creative genius of Walt Disney. The cartoons in this paper were drawn by Disney aged 16 whilst at McKinley High School, Chicago. Whilst at High School, Disney also took night classes at the Chicago Art Institute. Soon after these cartoons were published, Disney dropped out of high school to join the Army but, as he was too young to join, he joined the Red Cross instead, with a forged birth certificate. Upon his return from service in France, Disney moved to Kansas City to begin his artistic career where he first met animator, Ub Iwerks and the rest, as they say, is history.
