Lot Essay

Richard Barr was a noted Theatre Producer who won this TONY award in 1963 for the theatre production of Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf? along with Clinton Wilder. Barr began his career as Orson Welles' right-hand man and accompanied him to Hollywood where he worked on Citizen Kane. He later returned to New York, producing experimental and controversial works on Broadway and most famous for producing works by Edward Albee. He was also president of the prestigious American League of Theaters, the organization of Broadway and Regional Theater producers, from 1968 to 1989 and was responsible for several innovations in Broadway production.
