Elizabeth Smart was a poet who extended her friendship and hospitality to Deakin and his friends, sometimes, it would seem, against the odds. Daniel Farson recalls that 'Elizabeth Smart had a cottage [in Suffolk] where Deakin, Colquhoun and MacBryde were such unruly guests that she found it easier to sell up and leave....'3 She married George Barker and it is thanks to their daughter Georgina, also a frequent model for Deakin, that this small group of prints has been preserved.
