Lot Essay
The Gilbert & George Polaroids offered in this lot were taken by Andy Warhol in 1975. The portrait sitting was arranged by Warhol's friend William Burke, an American art dealer, who at the time was working in Paris. The silkscreen double portrait, based on the Polaroid shots, was presented by Warhol to the British artists in June 1976 at the Savoy in London (fig.1).
