Lot Essay

The image depicts the road to Salvation which is illustrated through a ladder leading to Heaven and the Cross with the word Fides or faith inscribed--and the descent to damnation illustrated on the right with the steps taken towards it. Naturally, the stairs leading to Heaven depict virtues while the steps plunging into the mouth of Hell or ferocious dragon, enumerate sins accumulated during a life of debauchery.
