Lot Essay

The current lot represents lengths 11-18 of the 'Environs de Paris' series (length 19 is lacking) entitled 'Pont de Saint Cloud, the meandering Seine'. It was first produced circa 1820 by Paulot & Carre and was reproduced in later editions. The complete series is 30 lengths in total comprising a series of scenes separated from one another by a tree or clump of trees.

We are grateful for the assistance of Christine Woods, Curator (Wallpaper) at The Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester, with the cataloguing of this lot.
