MAN RAY
Photographs. 1920-1934. With a portrait by Picasso. Texts by André Breton, Paul Eluard, Rrose Sélavy, Tristan Tzara. Hartford, New York, and Paris: James Thrall Soby, Random House, and Cahiers d'Art, 1934. Folio (312 x 238mm). 104 black and white photographs. Original spiral-bound colour photo-illustrated wrappers (light wear at extremities and rear cover, a very few tabs torn but holding). Provenance: owner's name in ink on inside front cover.
FIRST EDITION OF MAN RAY'S FIRST MONOGRAPH. A very good copy of this fragile book; this one, as most, with the cancel title bearing the fictitious statement of 'second edition' -- the publisher 'attempted to generate demand where none existed by suggesting the edition had sold out... copies with the original title page are exceedingly rare' (101 Books, pp. 80-81). Cf. Regards à travers le livre 47.
