A fine English gilt-brass inclining compass sundial,
Edm Culpeper Londini fecit 1695 - 1725
with wheatsheaf and foliate decoration throughout, the hinged hour-plate with hour-circle numbered clock-wise IIII-XII, XII-VIII and shaped folding gnomon, the base plate with folding latitude arm numbered 0-60, engraved with table of latitudes for nine cities and the compass basin engraved with eight compass points, 0-0-20
scale and with blued-steel needle, the obverse of base-plate with further table of latitudes for twenty-three cities and with two brass feet, in original octagonal fishskin-covered, plush-lined case
