(1in.) square, and one very fine, sheer piece of grey synthetic fabric attached to a section of khaki nylon woven wadding -- approximately 6.5 x 2.5cm. (2½ x 1in.) wide, with exhibition photograph and a facsimile copy of the letter authenticating the material from Kiev's Cosmonautics Museum and Republican Planetarium

Lot Essay

Valentina Tereshkova was the first woman in space and the offered material swatches come from the parachute that lowered her to Earth in the Vostok-6 on the 19th of June 1963. They were originally donated by Colonel M. Y. Temper to the Kiev Cosmonautics Museum and Republican Planetarium.
