Lot Essay

''......This piece was a maquette done for the larger study and explores the chase. The composition is conceived to convey the method by which the buck evades the leopard. It does this by jinking from side to side. In this sculpture the leopard is coming in from one direction, the buck is going out in another, and there is a compositional tension between the two which interprets the hunt. There is a sense of uncertainty here as to whether the buck has been caught or not. Certainly, not every hunt is successful.''
