Atul Dodiya draws inspiration from Jatayu, the vulture who played a pivotal role in the rescue of Sita in the Hindu epic, Ramayana.
According to the artist, "Death, decay, violence has been part of my oeuvre in recent time, also has a role to play here. The skull alongside the figure of the bird is a representation of Time." (Correspondence, 16 April 2007).
