RARE CHAVIN STEATITE VESSEL
CUPINISQUE, CA. 900 - 600 B.C.
of rounded form narrowing at the mouth and elaborately carved overall with two mythical interlacing creatures with feline and snake attributes, each with sinuous body, covered with circular depressions for inlays, with three taloned paws(?), profile head with gaping mouth, projecting forked tongue, sunken eye for inlay and upturned snout; in variegated carnelian and cream stone.
