The bottle of rounded rectangular section, supported on a cylindrical wedge-shaped foot, painted on the four faces in deep purplish-blue tones with rectangular panels, each enclosing a different scene of four boys at play, including one riding a hobby horse and two fishing in a tub, and playing with toys and banners within garden and landscape settings, all reserved on a dense floral ground

Lot Essay

The present lot is unusually painted and larger than other comparable known examples, such as the square bottle sold in New York, 9 December 1987, lot 269; and the restored example sold in these Rooms, 31 March 1992, lot 613.
