The present stembowl was probably used as a lamp for the Buddhist altar, similar to those known as 'butter lamps' included in the exhibition, Monarchy and its Buddhist Way, Tibetan-Buddhist Ritual Implements in the National Palace Museum, 1994, illustrated in the Catalogue, no. 102 (blue and white stemcup), nos. 103-104 (in cloisonne enamel).
