A WHITE JADE COVERED VASE GROUP

The group is finely modelled as a majestic heron, its body well-hollowed to form a box with its upper body acting as the lid, standing on a twisted lotus branch carved in reticulation and interwoven with further lotus branches, variously growing leaves and flowers to the sides emerging from a rockwork base, further detailed with a companion heron foraging for food on the ground, all beside a cylindrical vase raised on a splayed foot, the sharply angled shoulder narrowing to a high neck, flanked by a pair of mythical beast-head handles, each suspending a loose circular ring, below the dish-shaped mouth supporting a cover surmounted by a mythical lion with one paw atop a ball, its head turned to one side with mouth agape to provide a ferocious expression, the semi-translucent stone of even white tone
9 7/8 in. (25.1 cm.) high, stand, box
