AN UNUSUAL CARVED LARGE PEACHWOOD WALL PLAQUE
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY

Finely carved in high relief with a pair of cranes, one standing on a rocky outcrop, the other on the branch of an aged pine above a valley floor with flowering shrubbery and lingzhi sprouting from behind rocks, before a waterfall emerging from cliffs to one side and mountains in the far distance

Lot Essay

There are numerous references to longevity on this plaque including the pair of cranes, the pair of aged pine trees and the lingzhi suggesting that this may have originally been presented as a birthday gift.
