This work is an example of the Dutch Pop-art movement in the 1960's. Depicted are works by Karel Appel, Corneille, Constant, Pierre Alechinsky and Anton Rooskens. The men on the present lot are Gerrit Likmaaker (upper centre), Jasper Grootveld (known as De anti-rookmagiër), Bernard de Vries (centre, the first Provo member who was elected to the city council of Amsterdam). The man lower right is Bart Hughes, a doctor who drilled a hole in his head to get a constant feeling of extacy. Provo is the name of the movement founded by the student Roel van Duyn in Amsterdam. Just as the CoBrA artists in the late 1940's expressed their dissatisfaction with the establishment, Provo did the same in the years 1965 until 1967
