Lot Essay

This pair of decorative bronze garnitures, reductions of two of the grandest marble wine-krater vases of antiquity, were further popularised in the early 19th century following the Louvre's acquisition of the Borghese vase, with its frieze of bacchic figures.
These vases were possibly acquired for display on the dining-room sideboard-table.
