Lot Essay

The elegant bureau dressing-table of golden satinwood is fitted with a hinged writing-slope and galleried stretcher-tray for china. Thomas Sheraton's Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Drawing Book (1791-94) featured a related pattern for a bedroom apartment 'Reading and Writing Table' (R. Edwards, Sheraton Furniture Designs, 1949, pl. 24).
