The comfortable easy chair, intended for richly buttoned upholstery, has columnar and antique fluted legs that reflect the 1880s 'Sheraton' fashion. It bears the brand of Gillow of London and Lancaster, and appears to have been supplied to match a billiard-table that is likely to have been acquired by Sir Edward Hunter Blair, 4th Bart (d.1896) (J. Hunter Blair, Blairquhan Castle 2000, p.30).
