Decorated with soapstone courtly figures within landscapes of pagodas, trees and rocky landscapes, formerly part of a larger screen, the reverse decorated with flowering branches and birds, losses

Lot Essay

Almost certainly the screen recorded in the Breakfast Room or Small Library at Kenwood House, as 'a 5 fold black + gold Chinese lacquer screen decorated with coloured soapstone figures' in the 1910 Inventory, Volume 1, p.24, item 209.
