The set of ivory dressing-table or 'toilet' display boxes are engraved in 'India' fashion with landscape vignettes, resembling architectural prints, and these are wreathed in floral chintz-like ribboned borders. The fashion haD been introduced in Vizigapatam in the mid 18th century as it appears on a dressing-table cabinet discussed by A. Jaffer in Luxury Goods from India: The Art of the Indian Cabinet-Maker London, 2002 (no.33).
