Painted en grisaille with groups of trophies representing the liberal arts, on pale-peach ground cartouches linked by stylised moulded chains and ropes beneath ribbon-tied leaf swags; the pierced cover with an elaborated flower-encrusted finial (rope and link ornament lacking in sections; the cover with chipping and losses to flowers)

Lot Essay

This form appears closeley related to the famous vase ferré popular at Sèvres throughout the 1760s and is typical of the Meissen factory's adoption of French forms during the Marcolini period.
