Lot Essay

The sitter was the daughter of Dr. William Markham, Archbishop of York. She married David William Murray, 3rd Earl of Mansfield and 8th Viscount Stormont (1777-1840) on 16th September 1797.

Born in Fife, Sanders trained in Edinburgh under the coach painter William Allan, before moving to London in 1805.
