Lot Essay

William Atkinson's hand-drawn design for a similar daybed can be seen in his 'Scone Sketches Furniture' held in the Scone Palace Family Archive.
The squab-cushioned Grecian sofa or chaise longue relates to lot 411 and another example that remains at Scone Palace and is further enriched in Atkinson's robust baronial antique gothic fashion and displayed in Scone's Queen Victoria Suite (J. Jauncey, Scone Palace, 2003, p.38).
