A very similar sarcophagus is illustrated on the side table on the right side of J. Gibb's painting of the Long Gallery at Scone Palace circa 1827.

Such golden marble objet d'arts served as garnitures for chimney-pieces furnished in the late 18th century 'antique' fashion. It is modelled on the celebrated Pantheonic 'tomb of Agrippa', and one such model featured amongst the 1790s sketches, made by the Rome-trained architect C. H. Tatham, of ornaments suitable for the embellishment of the palatial Carlton House residence of George Prince of Wales, later George IV. The sketches were titled: 'Ornaments for Chimney Pieces etc. (chiefly worked in antique marbles of the rarest kind, & others found in excavations made at Rome) collected there for Henry Holland Esq. Architect in the years 1795 and 1796' (Tatham Album, sold Bloomsbury Book Auctions, 1 June 2000, lot 90).
