The centre printed in black with a large marble sculpture and figures within an architectural capriccio, the border printed with flower-sprays and clobbered with pale green and iron red ground panels of flowerheads below a gilt rim, the exterior with iron-red flower-sprays (firing fault to rim)

Popular in the 18th century, clobbering typically refers to ceramics of Asian origin later cold-painted or lacquered in Europe, but it is not uncommon to see European wares decorated in this technique.
