Lot Essay

The 'Mascagni' name clearly refers to the Mascagni Record Company, of Budapest, whose address is on the recorder carton. Some of the cylinders, however, were bought from a dealer in Vienna. The case, which has quilted padding under the phonograph, has preserved the instrument in exceptional condition, although some of the brown cylinders are mildewed.
