Richard Jack was born in Sunderland and worked in Paris. He is reported to have sent a Portrait for exhibition at the Royal Academy in 1893. Eventually he settled in London and took up a career as a portrait painter. Notably his subjects included King George V and Queen Mary. He also painted the interior of Buckingham Palace. In 1900 he was awarded a gold medal at the Exposition Universelle. Around 1930 he moved to Canada and remained there. His works are in collections including the Tate Gallery and Pittsburgh Museum.
