Lot Essay

Early enamel portraits of circular shape are extremely rare. Another one by Prieur, signed and dated 1658 and of similar size, is in the Victoria and Albert Museum, illustrated in T. H. Colding, Miniature- og Emaillemaleri i Danmark 1606-1850, Aalborg, 1991, p. 37, fig. 67.
