A BACTRIAN STEATITE RITUAL VESSEL
CIRCA LATE 3RD-EARLY 2ND MILLENNIUM B.C.
Cylindrical in form, well-hollowed with a flat base, the exterior sculpted with seven figures in relief including, from left to right, a bearded standing figure wearing a long belted kilt, the hands clasped at the waist, a nude figure with long hair wearing a collar, the hands clasped at the waist, a nude figure with short hair wearing a collar, the hands clasped at the waist, a nude squatting woman with legs spread, perhaps in a childbirth position, wearing a collar, a nude standing figure wearing a collar, a nude figure with a headdress of down-turned projections, both with hands clasped at their waists, and a small figure, perhaps a child, in a short kilt holding a rectangular object and grasping the thigh of the figure to his right; with two lug handles pierced vertically for suspension, and eleven drilled perforations around the rim, perhaps for attachment of a lid
