Minute repeaters are considered the pinnacle of Vacheron Constantin's production of complicated watches. Since the early 1940s until the mid 1980s, the prestigious Geneva firm focussed its production of minute repeating wristwatches on one model only: the celebrated reference 4261.

In the late 1980s, Vacheron Constantin decided to focus on creating a new Minute Repeater. After four years of research and endless hard work, in 1993 the company unveiled its first piece, the caliber 1755, an extra flat minute repeating movement, (which is fitted in the present piece) in honour of the year 1755 the company was founded.
