The national teams each comprise of a man and a woman who come from Europe and North America. They are chosen from 50,000 candidates, and they have to demonstrate their limits of physical endurance, team spirit, sense of orientation and off road driving skills. They have to conquer 2,000 kilometres of snow and ice in ten days only camping in tents at their overnight stops. The winner receives gold nuggets worth 10,000 Canadian dollars.
